Each summer Cedarwood staff and volunteers are a part of the amazing work that Jesus Christ does in the lives of our campers. Cedarwood is a unique ministry opportunity which has its focus on sharing the gospel with teenagers during our 10 weeks of ministry. As a summer staff or volunteer you will have many opportunities to share your faith and talk about the life-giving good news of Jesus. You will get the chance to teach a skill, spend time building friendships with campers, play games, act foolish onstage and provide an amazing summer camp experience each week of the summer. You will also live in an authentic grace-filled Christian community that sees the importance of accountability, mentorship and having fun together. Living in Christian community and sharing the gospel can be a wonderful way to grow in your faith. Summer Staff Roles
Cabin Leader and Skill InstructorCabin Leaders are one of the key roles in our summer programming who serve on the front lines of youth ministry. They share the gospel, lead discussion times, offer love and a listening ear (and correction if needed), and build friendships. Cabin Leaders are also skill instructors who lead their skills in a safe and enjoyable way for each camper. Our summer skills have included climbing, archery, soccer, volleyball, paintball, arts & crafts, etc. Our hope is that Cabin Leaders give their all in pursuit of giving teenagers an amazing camp experience at Cedarwood.

VideographerAt the end of each week of camp we provide campers with a video that features their time at Cedarwood. Campers enjoy having a memory video of their cabin group, their skills, our evening program and all the other experiences from camp. Our videographer shoots and edits videos during each week of camp. They also make an end-of-summer highlight reel for all our campers and a summer memory video for our staff and volunteer team. There is pre-season work available in this position if interested including creating videos to be used during our summer programming. Cedarwood provides the videographer the use of an iMac and Final Cut Pro software.

Support Staff
Summer camp is a large undertaking and we need a variety of people to help out. Support staff help in many areas of camp. You may be someone to help supervise and hang out with campers during their free time. You may lead an activity or teach a skill. There are times when you will join our kitchen or maintenance teams as a helping hand. If you are willing to serve wherever there is a need you will do well as support staff.

Kitchen StaffAs a summer kitchen staff, you will assist the cooks in preparing the daily meals. This role helps in the kitchen by prepping food, washing dishes, cleaning the kitchen, setting up the dining room and other tasks given by the head cook or food services manager.

Office StaffEach summer we look for 2 office staff to join our team. These staff oversee the reception and registration of our campers in the pre-season as well as on the opening day of each week. Some of the typical tasks of our office staff are to answer the phone, respond to emails, prepare camper room assignments, collect payments, help staff with paperwork, build relationships with our campers and communicate with our volunteers. If you are a people person and are can stay organized and on top of multiple tasks, this position may be for you.

Maintenance StaffOur summer maintenance staff assist in all areas of property and facilities maintenance. This could look like cutting the grass, construction projects, and other grounds-keeping responsibilities.

Leadership Staff
Each summer we look for people to join us in a few leadership positions. These people give leadership, direction and support to our summer staff team. We ask that they have prior experience in youth ministry or camp ministry. Leadership tasks include coordinating our music and evening program, scheduling camper activities, giving direction to our skills program, writing our gospel devotional, and other kinds of administrative and supervisory roles. A large part of our leadership roles is providing support and encouragement to our summer staff team through prayer and weekly mentoring meetings. Our leadership team also acts as a resource for staff who need help with their cabin, have questions or could use additional support with campers. Some leadership roles require a pre-season commitment beginning by May 1st.

These summer roles are combined with another staff role and are typically not stand alone jobs. For example our all of our Cabin Leaders are also Skill Instructors. Skill INSTRUCTORS
Skill instructors lead a camp skill in 3 skill periods a day. They give direction, encouragement and leadership to the campers during their skill. Teaching skill is an important part of the day where friendships are built with campers and opportunities arise to share the hope that you have in Jesus. You also get to enjoy time in an activity you may be passionate about or may grow to love as the summer progresses.
lIFEGUARDS
Lifeguards at Cedarwood ensure that our staff and campers are safe at our waterfront. Their duties include lifeguarding during free time when campers can go swimming or for activities where water safety is needed. Lifeguards also assist our camp nurse during medical emergencies and are asked to search the water in the case of a missing camper.
mUSICIANS AND sINGERS
Each summer Cedarwood puts together a band to lead worship and perform a variety of songs for our evening program. We need guitar players, a drummer, a bass player and a keyboard player for the band. We also look for some of our staff to lead worship or perform as singers.
pHOTOGRAPHER
Our photographer should document each week by taking photos of all the happenings at camp. These photos are shared on our social media, website and in advertising. This role will be paired with another job at camp like Support Staff, Counsellor or Videographer.

- Cabin Leaders must be at least 18 and completed high school no later than June 2023. For other summer staff positions you must be at least 16. *Exceptions can be made after a discussion with the Summer Director.
- We'd like to see evidence of a personal relationships of faith in Jesus Christ. We recognise that this relationship entails Christ's lordship in every area of your life.
- Please come with a conviction that Cedarwood is a place where God can use you and a willingness to depend on God in faith and prayer to supply for your needs.
- Have a willingness to serve and be directed by others. Be willing to adapt to new situations and responsibilities. Because of the nature of this ministry any of us may be required to help in areas and jobs for which we were not hired. We all serve Jesus anywhere and in any way we can.
- We'd like to see general evidence of your ability to handle the job requirements and general evidence of your ability to live and work in a close-knit community. Good physical health is essential as the pace of summer camp is demanding. Cedarwood is an intense ministry which also requires emotional health and strength.
- Cedarwood is a faith-based organization, so a successful candidate must be able to affirm and support our organization’s Statement of Faith and Community Covenant, and be committed to our summer mission. (These documents are made available during the interview and hiring process)
- Lastly we ask that you have a willingness to raise financial and prayer support. Staff honorariums or salaries are raised through donation income. Each summer staff person is asked to submit a list of potential supporters and to send updates to those people about their summer ministry work. More information about this will be made available during the interview process.

In an effort to build community, a good team dynamic, and continuity in our programming we ask that our summer staff join us for the full summer of ministry (June 18th -August 30th). If there are dates you know of that would make it difficult to join us for the whole summer please let the Summer Director know. Time off for family events like weddings and other activities can be made available but those dates need to be discussed with the Summer Director.

In the evenings there is opportunity for our community to be built including bonfires, girls and guys hangouts, board games, and other time spent together.

Summer Volunteers
Cedarwood accepts volunteers on a daily or weekly basis. There are many ways that friends of Cedarwood can volunteer their time to help support our summer ministry.

Camp Health Officer (Nurse)Each week of camp we need someone to help us with the medical side of camp. Our Camp Health Officers have been nurses, paramedics, firemen and EMTs. As the Camp Health Officer, you will hand out and administer medications, respond to medical accidents and emergencies, give out bandaids and have compassion for sick or injured campers. This position is typically filled by volunteers on a weekly basis. Many Camp Health Officers have also found time to relax by the beach or catch up on some reading.

Support Staff VolunteerSummer camp is a large undertaking and we need a variety of people to help out. Support staff volunteers can help in many areas of camp as ways to support the cabin leaders and other staff. You may have the opportunity to support a skill instructor or help in an administrative way. You can join our kitchen or maintenance teams as a helping hand. You will also be able to help in the cleaning of our lodge. If you are willing to serve wherever there is a need you will do well as support staff.

Other Ways to VolunteerThere are many ways to serve at Cedarwood. We sometimes are looking for drivers for our 15 passenger van or for our boats. Maybe there is a specific skill or training you have that you think may be beneficial to Cedarwood. Let us know!
