Cedarwood 2018 Parents Bulletin
Summer is just around the corner and it is going to be something spectacular!
Here’s some information you will need to know to ensure your camper has the best week possible. Please read it carefully and let us know if you have any questions.
REGISTRATION AND FINANCIAL INFORMATION
Remaining registration fees are due June 13th. In order to ensure that you are correctly credited and receipted please write the camper’s name on your cheque. Please do not send cash in the mail.
Please note, there will be no refunds for no-shows, campers who leave due to homesickness, or campers who are sent home. If an emergency arises and your child cannot attend camp, please contact the office.
Please make sure you have submitted all of your medical and waiver notes and signatures. We need to receive this information prior to your camper’s participation. This information is required by our insurance carrier and your camper will not be able to participate in any program activities until the completed forms are received. Your promptness in this area is greatly appreciated, thank you.
Cedarwood does it’s best to accommodate one or two roommate requests providing that the campers are in the same age group and have requested each other. Due to the nature of our housing arrangements, we can only guarantee one roommate request, but will do our best to accommodate up to three. For confidentiality purposes we will not disclose any rooming assignments before registration on Sunday.
We would love to meet the families of our campers and show them around the camp. If you plan to come to camp on your own, allow one and a half hours of travel time to get to Cedarwood from most parts of Winnipeg. The arrival time for registration is the same for all sessions. Registration at camp opens at 4:30 p.m. on opening day. Please do not plan to arrive earlier than this, as we are busy preparing for your arrival.
Cedarwood will have transportation for all who require it. For transportation to camp, please meet us at 2:45p.m. at the Youth For Christ/Camp Cedarwood Winnipeg office, 333 King Street on the opening day. On closing day we will arrive at 1:45pm at the YFC office for pickup. The fee for the trip is $20.00 + GST one way. The fee is non-refundable and must be paid in advance. Contact the Cedarwood office if you would like to be added to the transportation list or if you change your plans. Any changes that take place need to be a week before your child attends camp. After this date we cannot guarantee that there will be a spot on the bus for your child, but will do our best to accommodate!
When campers arrive for pickup at the bus, or if you are dropping them off at camp, we will be checking them for lice. Please be prepared to stay with them until this is finished. Thank you in advance for your patience!
PARENTS DAY AT CEDARWOOD
The closing day of every camp session is officially “Parents’ Day.” We would like to invite you to visit us and experience a bit of Cedarwood for yourself! If you are planning to be our guest on closing day the schedule is as follows:

Two towels (one for the beach and one for the shower)
Modest bathing suit*
Rain jacket, warm clothes
Extra pair of grubby shoes and clothes (for getting dirty and going to the rapids!)
At least one pair of closed-toed shoes – some activities will require these
At least one pair of long baggy/loose pants – these will be needed for some activities (ie. sweatpants)

Pillow and Sleeping bag/bedding for bunk beds & Pyjamas

Money for the Cedarwood store (If you did not prepay)
Cedarwood has a store on site which you are able to deposit money into for your camper to spend on snacks or Cedarwood merchandise (i.e. shirts, sweaters, etc.). This is not a requirement, however, if this is something your camper would like we would recommend about $20/week for snacks or $40-60/week for snacks and merchandise. NEW for 2018: On the final day (Saturday) there will be an opportunity to spend the remaining balance from their account on snacks & merchandise. Any unused amount will not be refunded, but will be set aside and used for future camper subsidies.
At Cedarwood we want to encourage and promote modesty and self-respect in order to have fun.
Please avoid clothing with inappropriate sayings, pictures and profanities.
We ask that the girls do not wear spaghetti straps or shirts that reveal underclothing.
No short shorts please. Shorts need to cover their bum even when bending over.
Leggings are acceptable as long as they have a shirt that covers their bum, and they are leggings, not tights/ nylons.
Please don’t wear any shirt/short combo that reveals the midriff.
*Bathing suit that reveals too much skin (ie. bikini) will be asked to cover with a t-shirt
STUFF TO LEAVE AT HOME*
These restrictions are in place to protect against theft and to ensure the safety of our campers and staff. If any of these items are brought to camp, they will be confiscated and held by the Camp Director until the end of the session
Cell phones, Laptops, iPads, etc.
Cigarettes, Drugs or Alcohol
Expensive shoes (to avoid damage during outdoor activities)
Food (we provide plenty, and we need to be sensitive to allergies)
Any form of body spray or perfumes (due to our air distribution system and allergies)
OFFICE HOURS, TOUCHING BASE
If you need to visit your camper while camp is in session it is important that you call ahead to make arrangements with the Camp Director.
If a camper needs to phone home, they will be using our office line. Camp life is busy, so there are designated times for phone calls. Typically, this occurs during camper free times from 2:45-3:45pm and 7:45-8:15pm. For urgent calls exceptions can be made. We check voicemails regularly and will be in contact promptly.
